How to Avoid Slow Windshield Wipers on Rail Applications

The nominally 12V and 24V wiper motors that power boat, truck and tractor wiper systems really operate at charging voltages of 13.5V and 27V, respectively.

But many locomotive generating systems operate at 74V and light rail often runs on 110V then use an inverter to step down high-voltage.  If you use a setpoint such as 24V or 12V, you’ll end up with wipers that operate too slowly. Rather, you should use setpoints of either 27V or 13.5V to ensure proper wiper speed.

When you’re vetting windshield wiper systems, remember that at AM Equipment we’re proud of how we collaborate with our customers to develop the wiper system solution that solves their problems.  We’d like to cure your windshield wiper system headaches too.  Give us a call at 541-327-1546 for more information.
