How to Measure a Wiper Arm

How to Measure Wiper Arm Length

The red arrows in these drawings illustrate the measurements you’ll need to make in order to get the correct wiper arm length.

You might be surprised to learn that the actual length of a wiper arm is longer than its designated length. That’s because the industry standard approach is to designate wipe arm length as the straight line distance from the center of the pivot shaft to the center of connection to the wiper blade  The bridge width between the driver and idler of a pantograph arm is measured “center to center” too.

But what about when there’s a bend in the arm?  Pretty much the same advice applies when there’s a bend in the wiper arm.  To determine the arms length, simply measure the straight line distance from the center of the pivot to the wiper blade connection.

So, just think “center to center” whenever you measure a wiper arm and you’ll do fine.

Set Screw

AM Equipment’s New Set-Screw Wiper Arm Mount Solves a Common Problem

AM Equipment has just released a new wiper arm mounting.  The new set-screw mounting’s configuration, including an extra-long skirt, protects the pivot shaft raises the wiper arm allowing clearance of the window gasket.

Wiper arm maintenance is simplified too.  A single “set screw” torqued to 40 inch pounds securely mounts the arm/blade combination to the pivot shaft.  Quick removal and installation with a single hex wrench means wiper arm maintenance is lot easier.

The new set-screw mounting socket allows us to build non-corrosive wiper arms that fit any 212 Series and 208 Series, and all WWF type marine wiper motors with ½ inch drums.

AM Equipment can build marine wiper arms with any of the blade and wiper arm characteristics our products are known for, including:

  • Stainless steel tension springs
  • Larger stainless steel flat wire construction
  • Simplified idler arm brackets
  • Available with either hook slot or saddle blade attachment
  • Choice of framed or frameless wiper blades

Where Can You Find Wiper Arms to Replace ANCO Products?

ANCO Wiper Arms are already hard to come by.  And with the closing of their plant in Michigan City, Indiana at the end of August, the situation isn’t likely to improve any time soon.  In fact, ANCO quit taking orders last February 15th and will cease production at the end of August 2013.  That decision may have left you in a bind.

So where can you find a supplier of quality, durable wiper arms?

While ANCO is going through this relocation you might want to look into AM Equipment as a backup supplier.

AM Equipment Wiper Arms Replace ANCO Products

AM Equipment has a line of standard duty wiper arms with the identical form, fit and function to fill gaps in your inventory caused by the interruption in production during ANCO’s move to Juarez, Mexico.

AM Equipment’s standard duty wiper arms are made with stainless steel and composite materials that offer superior corrosion resistance and durability.  These wiper arms are competitively priced, rivaling most non-stainless wiper arms.

    • 10mm x 4mm stainless steel extension for superior strength and corrosion resistance
    • 300 series stainless steel spring is custom calibrated for each application
    • UV stabilized composite channel
    • Internally routed washer hose is hidden from view and reduces snagging (optional)
    • Integrated high volume nozzle distributes fluid in an even fan-spray pattern (optional)
When you need a new source for those ANCO wiper arms that you can’t get, AM Equipment’s line of standard duty wiper arms makes a lot of sense.
We are located in Jefferson, Oregon and we assemble all of our wiper products right here.  You can depend on us.  We aren’t going anywhere.

Use the following tables to find the AM Equipment standard duty wiper arms with the identical form, fit, and function of the ANCO wiper arms you’re having a hard time finding.
