Our First "Made in America" Motors!

A few weeks ago, we introduced our new 240 Series DC Gear Motors. Of course we’re proud of this motor’s incredible torque and longevity, but we’re over-the-top elated that it is Made in America! We have other motors with high Buy America content, but we’re thrilled to offer these US-made 240 Series motors.

Look at these beautiful armatures!

Look at these beautiful armatures!

Since we’re building the 240s right at home in Jefferson, Oregon, we can keep a close eye on quality and consistency, plus we are improving our time-to-market. Another benefit: we can make nimble changes to our motor windings for specific current needs. That means we can customize our design for specific applications and customers on a small scale.

Introducing Our New 240 Series 40 Nm DC Gear Motor!

Meet the newest addition to AM Equipment’s motor line-up: the 240 Series. Our engineering team has been hard at work designing this little workhorse. It is our first 100% Made in USA motor—made right at home in Jefferson, Oregon, in fact!

240-series-dc-gear-motor.jpg

What sets the 240 Series apart? It is a dynamic park wiper motor with up to 40 Nm stall torque, available in either 12 V or 24 V. With the 65:1 reduction ratio, it offers superior torque. The motor has extended brush life because of the longer brush length and improved compound, increasing overall longevity.

Right now, basic versions of the 240 Series are available online, but keep an eye out for extra variations suitable for more applications in the near future!

Looking for a 208 Series Motor? Try the 212 Series!

We’re streamlining our motor offerings, and to that end, we recently discontinued the 208 Series DC gear motors. Our 212 Series DC gear motors serve as direct replacements for 208s, but with more features (we know you love features).

212-dc-gear-motor.jpg

Here’s the nitty-gritty of the 212s as 208 replacements:

  • Still fit in small installation envelopes

  • Motor bracket replicates hole pattern of 208s for easy replacement

  • Both motors are single speed, clockwise or counterclockwise park

  • 212 Series motors park in the opposite direction from 208 Series; to maintain the same park position, use this wire harness if you have a plug-in harness

  • 212s have more torque, so they can run longer windshield wiper arm and blade combos

  • 212s are compatible with our motor covers (with and without rocker switch)

Upgraded Design: 10 Liter Washer Bottles

We recently redesigned our 10 liter washer bottles. How different could a washer bottle get? As it turns out, our engineers found many ways to improve the design.

Unlike the old version, our new 10 liter washer bottles:

  • Can be used with our standard washer pumps or our high-performance sealed washer pumps

  • Are available with (or without) a fluid level sensor

  • Feature grooves on front and back surfaces for increased rigidity

  • Have larger mounting slots for more installation flexibility

  • Offer extra recesses for options such as remote filling if the cap isn’t accessible

Those are just the new and improved parts! Find out more about the bottle’s standard features, or check them out in the shop.

AM Equipment's Adjustable Radial Windshield Wiper Arms

Our team saw the need for an improved wiper arm in the marine industry, then hunkered down in the lab to create it. Now, this feature-packed adjustable arm is available for boats as well as other applications.

adjustable-wiper-arm-drum.jpg

What makes our adjustable arms different?

First, they’re highly corrosion-resistant due to their stainless steel and composite components.

Second, since the arm length is adjustable, specialty boat builders (or anyone!) can buy a single kit or arm and it’ll fit any of their custom glass sizes. AM Equipment’s adjustable arms change length with a simple push lever for a perfect fit.

adjustable-wiper-arm-tab.jpg

Third, our arm mounting head angle is also adjustable. That means it will easily adapt to different pivot positions.

adjustable-wiper-arm-head.jpg

Fourth, if you order the adjustable arm with the 1/2” drum mounting option, it includes a positive dual locking mechanism, which is unique in the industry. This keeps your wiper arms snugly attached to your boat.

If you just need one or a few adjustable arms, find them in our online shop:

Improved Windshield Wiper Arms for the Marine Industry

Don’t worry—you can have them too, even if you don’t have a boat!

Our Standard Wiper Arms with 1/2” drum mounting have some terrific attributes for marine and other harsh environments. They are designed to pair well with our 212 Series DC Gear Motors, which are also popular for boats.

standard-duty-wiper-arm-marine.jpg

First of all, our arms offer greater corrosion resistance than most others because of their stainless steel and composite materials. Our tension springs are stainless steel, plus the arms themselves are made of sturdy stainless steel flat wire.

setscrew.png

Another bonus: this arm is simple to install and maintain because a single set screw torqued to 40 inch pounds secures it to the pivot shaft. Just one hex wrench necessary!

AM Equipment’s Standard Duty Wiper Arms with 1/2” drum mounting are available in the following configurations:

AM Equipment's 214 Series DC Gear Motor

It looks like a window lift motor, but it is an everything motor!

214-series-dc-gear-motor.png

The 214 Series is frequently mistaken for a window lift motor, but its strengths and features make it indispensable for other applications instead.  It serves as a utility motor unconnected to a door system.

Qualities of the 214:

  • Self-locking

  • Resists backdrive

  • Internal circuit breaker protected

  • Double flat power take-off shaft

  • Power take-off shaft extends from motor housing plane

  • Waterproof connector

  • 12 V, LH housing

  • 14 Nm stall torque

  • 90 rpm no-load

Standard window lift motors run a gear that rotates on a fixed axle, which bends out of place with a side load.  Because of the 214's unique bushing system and power take-off shaft, it can handle a side load without bending.  The result?  It is perfect for driving a gearbox, linear actuating, and rotary actuating.

Sample applications:

  • Opening/closing valves

  • Locking doors

  • Powering gates

  • Opening/closing greenhouse windows

  • Enabling the mobility industry

  • Opening/closing RV or bus doors

  • Opening/closing RV or bus compartments

  • Deploying/retracting hose reels

  • Lifting/lowering beds in RVs or toy haulers

History Lesson: Invention of the Windshield Wiper

One of the mechanisms for which AM Equipment is known is the Windshield Wiper Assembly, but we certainly didn't invent it.  The credit for that goes to Mary Anderson.

US Patent & Trademark Office

US Patent & Trademark Office

In 1902, Mary took a trip to New York City.  She rode a streetcar on a blustery day and observed the driver's battle with the snow and sleet.  He couldn't see through the windshield, so he frequently hopped outside to manually clear the glass.  Needless to say, this was unpleasant for him as well as his passengers, who weren't thrilled about the chilly air or the delays.

Mary returned home and designed the first windshield wiper.  It was a blade on the outside of the windshield that was controlled by a lever on the inside, keeping the driver safe and dry.  In 1903, the US Patent & Trademark Office awarded Mary a patent for her device, but she was never able to sell the idea.

Luckily for us, Mary's invention was later revived and we're now able to provide windshield wipers to improve the safety of many transportation industries.

We streamlined options to make ordering easy:  just choose the radial kit or the pantograph kit according to your windshield size and shape.  (Hint:  shorter, wider glass should use radial and square or taller glass should use pantograph.)

Kits include a 212 single speed wiper motor, a wiper arm, and a wiper blade, plus a pantograph adapter for the pantograph kit.

Whether you're replacing an old system that's no longer running up to snuff or your boat never had windshield wipers to begin with, one of our kits can improve your vision on the water, rain or shine... hopefully shine, though.

Upgraded Design: New Pivot Seals

In support of our customers who operate transit bus fleets in Colombia and Peru, AM Equipment developed a new windshield wiper pivot shaft seal that offers additional protection in harsh, humid environments.

Unlike the old seal, the new seal completely surrounds the pivot shaft and housing to prevent water and contaminates from entering the pivot bearing.  It is available on our Plug & Play Wiper Assemblies.

new-pivot-shaft-seal.jpg

Our new seal has also proven to extend the service life of wiper systems installed on delivery trucks operating in the US heartland, where record cold winters have increased the use of road deicing salt brine solutions.

By developing continuous improvements, we at AM Equipment are contributing measurable value to our customers' products.
